“QUOTATION” Magazine IN THE ART insert
Starting in 2018, we have been contributing to “Quotation” Magazine on a regular basis. For this special “Art in The City” issue we were asked to present and interview 4 visual artists that are based in Amsterdam, that we find inspirational. “Quotation” Magazine is distributed in Japan only.
Paradise Lost 004
Joshua Hoogeboom-Noya's ongoing photographic research project, Para- dise Lost, is motivated by the questions: "Why does it need to be one or the other?"; "Why does one thing need to be lesser than another?" This exhibi- tion, presenting the work from his 4th research installment, goes deeper into the idea of experience, and the role of sympathy and empathy of the viewer.
THE MUKADE AND THE MOUNTAIN
In 2015, we organized a residency program in Senzu Town, Fukuoka, hosting 7 artists, including Anne Claire de Breij. "The Mukade and the Mountain" showcases her work from the Future Residency in the (former) Senzu Elementary School. Living amid mountains, she captured the region's essence in portraits and staged photos, drawing inspiration from Japanese legends and nature. The book, intensely personal, marks a pivotal moment, launched with a multimedia presentation in Amsterdam.
Ojika Artist in Island
Ojika Artist in Island Residency Program, an ongoing residency in Nagasaki Prefecture’s Goto archipelago. The annual program invites diverse artists to collaborate, explore, and create within Ojika’s vibrant community, historical, and cultural context. The focus of the residency between 2019 - 2025 is to investigate different approaches to creating cultural and artistic infrastructure.
Future Dead Tour Spring and Fall
With our close friends, and Japan distributors D.E.A.D. (Dog Ear Archive Distribution) we organize the D.E.A.D. Future Tour. It is a tour through Japan that started in 2023 and will continue till all of us, and our generational successors have decided to throw in the towel.
FI-FU
Saga Prefecture asked us to create a format so that a NL-based musician could re-interpret a local folk song. We thought it would be important to document this process in a seperate work of art, so we invited two people, Lavinia Sauza,a film maker who made an artistic film of the new song by vocalist and composer Jasmine Karimova, in collaboration with Saga based musicians.
ELLIS FAAS
Together with the ELLIS FAAS team we worked on a new perspective to tell the story of this Amsterdam cosmetics brand. We produced two books, a communication strategy and frameworks for collaborations.
COMMON FUTURE
In the last few decades, emphasis on individual success has dominated, but a shift towards a Common Future is needed. In 2017, Lokaal Internationaal was initiated to connect global creative networks with a shared vision. By 2019, VRIJHAVEN / COMMON FUTURE, a series of cultural events, was proposed for the Olympic Year. However, the pandemic disrupted plans. In 2021, the program pivoted to online and offline media, featuring interviews and essays in Vrijhaven and ongoing Common Future 'zine series, fostering connections and inclusivity among global makers.
Stedelijk Museum Aankopen
The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam commissioned a digital publication for the exhibition "When Things Are Being," showcasing Dutch artists' responses to an open call. The catalog provided insights into each work, artist, and concept, featuring essays by the artistic director and curators.
Cale Exhibition
We were part of a group exhibition in Cale Tokyo in May 2022, at the end of our first post-COVID trip to Japan. We made some new collage work together with photographer Shin Hamada. And, made a new book and poster series "Out of TYO" about all the places we had visited in the weeks before. To share our love for deep-local places.
